Urgh. Christmas is coming and, as with every other holiday season and festive event, it’s an excuse to eat a whole bunch of food and get (even more) fat. We love Christmas, but we don’t love the extra pounds we end up putting on. So we know what it’s like for these following fifteen child stars who got fat. The poor souls. One too many mince pies (or non-seasonal treats, who knows?) and they went from slim to stocky in no time. You can chart the pounds being piled with the drop off in their fame. They replaced fame and fortune with Cheetos. And we’ve got the proof for you right here. So put those six burgers down and check ’em out…
Did anyone know that the cute little nipper from Pay It Forward, Haley Joel Osment, was going to pile on the pounds when he got older? We’re betting his agent didn’t. Did you? Maybe you’ve got a sixth sense for this kind of thing, only we never saw it coming. Has it affected his career? Hard to say. Work dried up until recently, certainly. Was it due to his ever-expanding waistline? Difficult to say. Still, work’s picked up again recently. He was recently seen in Kevin Smith’s weird indie flick Tusk.
Raven-Symoné Christina Pearman first appeared on television in 1989 on The Cosby Show as Olivia Kendall. But it wasn’t long until she bagged her own show, in the Disney Channel series That’s So Raven where she played Raven Baxter, a psychic teenager. Fast forward a few years though and we see that it’s so Raven to munch down and get a bit chunky. She never got crazy fat and lost it soon after, but there was definitely a spell where she was tipping the scales.
Here we see Jeremy Miller, the child actor who played the part of Ben Seaver on the long-running old hit television show Growing Pains between the years 1985 and 1992. You might remember him as the youngest child in the Seaver family. Producers got him on board because they thought he was a cute kid. But now? He’s a fat adult. Or at least he was. This snap was taken a few years ago and he’s parked a little of that weight since. Let’s hope he shaves off that terrible goatee soon too.
It’s Webster! Emmanuel Lewis played the star role in the hit sitcom and became a household name and face. Often compared to Gary Coleman because of his never-grow-old looks, as he turned into a man, like Coleman, he still looked like a child. There was some growing, though. Outwards. He remained short and baby faced, but he got tubby. Poor Webster. Being the former spokesperson for the Burger King Whopper probably didn’t help with the weight problems…
Charlie Korsmo was the little kid in Hook, Jack Banning – the son of Peter Pan. He carried on acting up until 1998, when he quit the biz. And started mainlinging hot dogs, burgers and cheesecakes. Still, we shouldn’t laugh too much. Korsmo is hardly a loser. He’s a lawyer now. Who graduated from the world’s most impressive university, The Massachusetts Institute of Technology. And not everyone gets into MIT, you know.
Mikey from The Goonies was played by the child actor Sean Astin. Now, Master Astin went on to star in a whole bunch of other movies around that time like Rudy. He latterly bagged the role of Samwise Gamgee in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy too. That job set him onto the path to stardom. Despite the fact that since his Goonies days, he’s really let himself go. He may have been Mikey, but he’s Chunk now!
Ed Furlong was looking like he might be on the way to being a teen heart-throb and Hollywood big-hitter after his starring role as John Connor in Terminator 2: Judgement Day. But, alas, booze and drugs and various brushes with the law put paid to that idea. He’s continued to scrape a living in movies ever since, but only just. And when you’re not in demand, you can kick back with Doritos, can’t you? Ed certainly has.
Daniel “Danny” Tamberelli played Little Pete on the Nickelodeon television show The Adventures of Pete & Pete, as well as featured in movies like Igby Goes Down and The Mighty Ducks. Since those days he’s been to Hampshire College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in something called ‘Interdisciplinary Arts focusing on music performance and booking management’. And we’re guessing he ate a lot of ramen noodles at college. Like, maybe five or six packs a day…
Zachery Ty Bryan isn’t a household name and you probably wouldn’t recognize him if you passed him on the street (unless you personally know him…), but he’s is an actor and producer who’s best known for his role as Brad Taylor on the hit US sitcom Home Improvement. Remember? The one with Tim Allen and Tool Time? Yeah, that one. He was also in Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift. Since then he’s taken up professional eating. Well, he’s looks like it, at least.
Do you remember Lisa Turtle on Saved By The Bell? Yip, she was played by the lady above, Lark Voorhies. She was a fan’s favorite for many years and had some acting and musical success after the show wrapped up too. Problems with bi-polar depression and her weight followed and that’s why we’ve seen pictures like the one on the right here.
33 year-old American Beauty and Ghost World star Thora Birch first rose to prominence in the movie Purple People Eater. She’s still acting and selects her parts wisely. Sure, she’s no A-Lister, but she is still very active. But with a figure that’s not quite as lithe as it once was. That said, the Dark Corners actress isn’t exactly orca fat nowadays. But she’s not a ‘gym everyday’ kinda girl. And hey – there’s nothing wrong with that…
Mayim Bialik was Blossom. You might remember. Now? She’s a little bigger and playing the ‘love interest’ of Dr. Sheldon Cooper in the enormous smash hit sitcom The Big Bang Theory. We’ve gotta say, though… Her build isn’t exactly slight, is it? So she was always like to shoulder a fair bit of tucker. So ‘fat’ isn’t exactly fair. Let’s just say ‘built’, shall we? Okay.
Jason Lee Scott – or ‘The Red Power Ranger’ was played in the TV series by a fella called Austin St. John. A judo black belt, he went on to act in a few more things, but canned it after a few years. Now he works as an East Coast emergency medical technician and firefighter and, we hope he doesn’t mind us saying (what what his martial arts skills…), he’s got a little porky of late.
This is Jason Hervey. He played Wayne Anthony on The Wonder Years (the main lad’s older brother). He also pitched up in fare like Back to the Future, Pee-wee’s Big Adventure and Meatballs Part II. After acting, he involved himself in the world of professional wrestling and public relations. And he’s certainly filled out his frame, hasn’t he? He’s no John Goodman, but he’s not wasting away.
Former Disney star and musician Hilary Duff used to be big news. Now she’s just big. She was Lizzie McGuire, remember? Anyway, since she’s stopped thinking about movies, television and music and started dedicating herself to her family, she’s adopted a more ‘normal’ figure. And it looks alright, doesn’t it? Not glamorous, but nice.
