Don’t worry, we’ve not gone crazy – we’re not going to try and tell you what happened to Dozy from Snow White or anything, we’re talking about real life people. The actors and actresses from Disney movies and television shows. Many former stars from the Disney stable faded away, some made it big. A lot led relatively boring lives after they stopped working for the corporation. But some went on to lead pretty interesting lives afterwards. And that’s where we come in. We’re here to tell you just what it is that they got up to. So let’s go!
Kaley Cuoco might be better known for her role now as Penny in The Big Bang Theory. Or as the young daughter in ABC’s hit sitcom 8 Simple Rules. Or for marrying a douchebag. But whatever it is you know the cute blonde star from (oooh, Charmed too – sorry…) – it’s probably not her Disney work. Although that’s where she started out. In the Disney Channel original movie, Alley Cats Strike! Nope, we’d never heard of it, either. So don’t feel too bad. Kaley’s agent can probably barely remember it.
Big time British actor and husband to Rachel Weisz, Daniel Craig, is currently one of the biggest stars in the world. Playing James bond will do that to you. But one of his first big screen outings was in the Disney family film A Kid in King Arthur’s Court. Remember that flick about the nerdy kid who goes back in time (sort of) to Arthurian legend? He played Master Kane. And now he’s 007. Who saw THAT coming!?
You know him as Walter White, the dying chemistry teacher who breaks bad in, er, Breaking Bad. Your older sister knows him as the dad from Malcolm in the Middle and weirdos who love cheap Disney Christmas movies know him as Nick Wrigley from ‘Twas the Night, a 2001 festive flick which the channel still airs every year. The man’s come a long way from his Disney days.
There are few more bankable comedy stars in the world than Will Ferrell. Arguably, his biggest and most successful days might be behind him but he’s still a big deal. But did you know that as early work he took on the voice of Geryon, the large human-like monster with three torsos from the TV series version of Disney’s Hercules? And just a few years later he’s earning tens of millions in some of the biggest movies in the world!
Seth Wosmer in the first season of the Disney Channel series Phil of the Future. Remember him? Well, no, neither do we. But little Seth went on to do pretty well, thanks very much. He was played by Evan Peters who’s gone on to appear in some huge movies like Kick Ass and the X-Men franchise. But most notably, he’s won over a legion of fans for his roles in the anthology horror series, American Horror Story.
Amy Bruckner was in Disney Channel shows Phil of the Future and American Dragon: Jake Long. Since those days, though? Believe it or not, Brucker actually left acting for around six odd years for academia, studying human rights and feminist theory at New York University and wound up backpacking through Europe. She’s a smart cookie. And a tough one too!
He’s one of Hollywood’s most famous faces and an all-round whackjob, but not so long ago Shia LeBeouf was a Disney star. You might remember. He was Louis Stevens in the Disney Channel series Even Stevens. He even received a Young Artist Award nomination in 2001 and won a Daytime Emmy Award in 2003 for his role in the show. And just look at him now. All grown up. And super, super weird…
Here’s Adam Lamberg, otherwise known as David “Gordo” Gordon in the Disney Channel series Lizzie McGuire. he played the role from 2001 through 2004. Since those days, he’s ditched the acting and majored in geography at University of California, Berkeley. He now works as something called a ‘Development Associate’ at the Irish Arts Center in New York City. Whatever that means. He’s also studying for a master’s degree in Public Administration.
Who’d have thought when they first spotted The Jonas Brothers on The Disney Channel in things like Camp Rock and JONAS that they’d go on to have some spectacular success? Well, maybe their hardcore fans did. Still, not many others could envisage the trio going to on to sell more than seventeen MILLION albums across the world! That’s a crazy amount. Good work, boys. You’ve come a long way.
It’s Maddie Fitzpatrick from The Disney Channel’s The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. Or, if you prefer, Sharpay Evans from the movie series High School Musical. Or maybe you know just her as Ashley Tisdale. Nowadays she’s a big time singer and has over twelve million followers on Twitter. She also recently posed nude for Allure magazine, saying, ‘I’m not just the young girl everybody thinks I am. I’m actually a woman.’
Raven-Symoné Christina Pearman is so Raven. Remember that show? That’s So Raven was a huge success for The Disney Channel. And Raven’s been no slouch since it finished. She’s still an actress, but she’s also a comedian, model, singer, songwriter, dancer, television producer and talk show host to boot. That’s So Busy. But will be she being going back to Disney? ‘Nevermore’ quoth the Raven.
As Gabriella Montez in the High School Musical series, Vanessa Hudgens found huge fame. She battled through her troubles with leaked naked photographs to forge quite an impressive acting career. She’s appeared in flowery stuff like Bandslam, as well as more Rated R roles including Machete Kills and the weird indie flick with James Franco, Spring Breakers.
New Mexico-born Demi Lovato found fame early thanks to Disney by pitching up in their shows like Barney & Friends and Camp Rock. But pretty quickly after leaving the Disney stable, she was signed up to Hollywood Records and nailing out albums. She later cemented her place as a huge pop sensation when Simon Cowell offered her a seat at the judge’s table on the American version of The X Factor.
She used to be known as sweet little Hannah Montana back in the day, but Billy Ray Cyrus’ daughter Miley is known for something else entirely now. Her raunchy dress sense, mostly. Catchy songs and memorable videos helped to get her smashing her way through to superstardom too. And a certain collaboration with Robin Thicke didn’t hurt. It’s pretty weird to think that she used to be Hannah Montana, isn’t it???
Elizabeth Brooke “Lizzie” McGuire was played by the child actress Hilary Duff. She’s not a child actress anymore though. Obviously. She’s an adult one. She’s also an adult singer. And a lyric in an old Eminem song, if you remember. She’s had high profile relationships with Joel Madden and Aaron Carter and sold an estimated fifteen million albums worldwide. Not bad, huh?!
